Character Sketches!

Emphasis on "sketch". These are some rough sketches I slammed out last night when I was too tired to actually do anything polished. It's important to know who your characters are. :)

This, for example, is you. The pilot. Looking dreadfully out of place in the Governor's Mansion. Although you can't see it in the sketch, congratulate yourself of clashing with everything: your hair is bright blue and your coat is either red or sunset orange - I haven't decided.

Here is an irritating official who tends to get in your way a lot.

Here is someone important. I think he'll be the governor himself, although I may end up making him a second-in-command. He brought his family down with him, including his young children.

Here is a very quick portrait of one of the real villains in the game. The drawing is terrible, but it should give you the basic idea.

Here and here is an old man who vanished into the depths of the caves with his exploratory team some months ago. He's one of the last survivors of the team, and is delightfully British. He's also the man your team is technically supposed to be looking for.

This lady is the legendary pilot. She lost an arm, a leg, an eye, and about a square yard of flesh in an aeroship "accident", so she can't really fly very well any more. However, she runs a pilot's school, and the whole school was shlepped down to The Machine City to provide protection and scouting. She's a very important NPC, as she is your role model.

Here is one of the three inventors which live in the Machine City. This one is the eager genius without any hint of common sense. Not shown is the mad old man and the sleazy, conniving witch.

There you have it. Seven characters, just for kicks.

I though you were just a design/software talent, but I'm glad to see you're approaching the shmup mini-game as a basis for character and storytelling. This looks like it has intersting potential for good gameplay and storytelling.
